Adding Sequins to Bobbin Lace
Generally, sequins are added into a honeycomb ring or in ground for best results.
To work sequins into your piece of lace whilst working the pattern, you will need a 0.4mm or 0.35mm crochet hook that will go through the hole of the sequin, but a Lazy Susan will work just as well.
Two sewing’s need to be made into each sequin, therefore using 2 pairs of bobbins. Thread a sequin onto the hook and pick up one of the bobbin threads of one pair. Slide the sequin over the hook and onto the thread making a loop of thread. Remove the hook. Pick up the other bobbin of the same pair and pass this through the loop and pull up so that the sequin lies in position. Push this pair (sewing) to one side within the hole of the sequin.
Then repeat with the other pair of bobbins, ensuring you pass through the hole of your sequin and not through the last sewing. Once both sewing’s have been made, you will need to ‘wiggle’ the threads so that they lie flat. Sometimes it is worth placing a pin through the middle of the sequins, avoiding threads to hold sequin in place.
